A League of Their Own (1992)

Da Peaches
  • Tom Hanks is absolutely hilarious as the "once great" Jimmy Dugan
  • Interesting concept for a movie and developed wonderfully
  • Geena Davis shines as the strong lead character
  • Dugan vs Stillwell have great comic bits
  • "There's no crying in baseball!"
  • Jon Lovitz has 15 minutes of screen time, but that's all he needs to get laughs
  • Introduction to Marla is hilarious
  • Sibling Rivalry
  • Good period piece with World War II in the background making a powerful 'appearance' throughout the film
  • Taking advantage of the woman in the league feels very real
  • Rosie O'Donnell and Madonna constantly bickering
  • A movie that focuses more on the relationships within the team rather than the team itself
  • Overall, its the supporting cast of Tom Hanks and the other members of the team that helps highlight the film
  • The movie has a high rewatchability rate, even though we know the outcome, its the character interactions that are exciting and funny

  • The transfer of Kit is extremely rushed, one minutes shes there, then she is gone, and then back in the championship game on the opposing team
  • Also leading up to the title game seems rushed/sudden, the is no sense of urgency throughout the playoffs so to speak
  • Generally speaking, it's the 3rd act that is the weak link in the movie

Score: 8/10

One of the greatest sports movies of all time, as well as one of Tom Hanks' best roles! It is probably safe to say this is the best sports movie featuring a woman's sports team. Tom Hanks is hilarious as the washed up coach and his scenes with him clashing with Stillwell as pure comedy gold. The baseball scenes may be simple and unique, but what really makes the movie powerful is the impact World War II has on the league and those involved.
